Sd1200Is Canon – Sd1200Is Compared Sd550 SD750 Y
I recently purchased this as a camcorder too small to be readily available and serve as a security camera. I can directly compare the SD 550 and SD 750 Canons also own (although the 550 has now been forwarded to my 7 year old daughter), and the Rebel XSi. The SD 750 is an excellent camera has served our family well, why ask what I can buy the Canon SD1200IS? I bought this primarily for two reasons also can apply to you. First, Society video function allows for much-more-watchable and secondly, the battery is the same type that is used for my Canon D10 (waterproof camera) – This is very useful in terms of carrying around less bulky chargers. The relatively low price for a camera of this quality was also a factor.
I worried a bit about buying this camera as some comments here blur noted, with some later revisions came joint pointing to the low resolution camera. As for my unit came set in higher resolution (as did the SD 550 and SD 750 to my memory). I wonder if some of the respondents somehow got a refurbished model because as far as I can tell the firmware of the camera automatically adjusts for the higher resolution Canon cameras in general.
To check the quality of the picture, I made a direct comparison between the SD1200IS Canon SD 750 and taking identical photos of what happens for me as a 'still life "- some toys on a sofa with detailed pattern of semi-dark conditions that require flash. Extension in about those shots, it seems that the flash is a bit brighter on the target = "_self" title = "Canon SD1200IS"> Canon SD1200IS but details are otherwise identical. As the SD 750 is a 7.1 MP camera and it is 10 MP, one would expect (understandably) high resolution this camera, but this ends up being an excellent example of the myth "megapixels."
While companies have been locked in higher megapixel as a marketing thing there is really diminishing returns as one goes up because of other constraints, including sensor noise, and above all the limits imposed by the system Optical. Can not get blood from a stone and can not get increasingly higher resolution images of the small camera lenses as this. This does not mean that the images are bad, just not be compared to images from a digital SLR that Canon Rebel XSI or Nikon D300 – but this not a criticism as this camera is not intended as a substitute for a digital SLR.
Video quality is similar to that in my SD 750 IS although not definitively improve the stability of the shots and allow them to be better mixed with images of a dedicated video camera. Interestingly, despite never intended to use this type of video camera, inevitably the time will come when all this is that it is available, and indeed children who happen very often! The best webcam for video or shot, of course, that really is with you at the moment!
The camera controls are like second nature if you have used Canons in the past. The door to the battery / SD compartment looks a little weaker than my previous models, but it is working well so far.
In short, this is a highly portable compact camera that makes the job of serving as a camera always available and may also serve as backup to a DSLR or other higher quality camera. I am very happy with the purchase and would recommend this camera. (Note that at the end of February 2010 is very likely that new models will be announced at a large trade fair)
